On the 3rd-5th of October, I had the pleasure of participating in the international congress "New Narratives for Mediterranean Rural Communities through the Voices of Women of Olive Oil" in Sciacca, Sicily, as a member of the global network "Women in Olive Oil".
It was an honor to present my vision for a different approach to olive tourism, inspired by the creation of Mykonos Olive Oil Tasting seven years ago. Since its inception, this initiative has been designed to offer visitors an authentic and luxurious experience on olive oil, local culture, and the traditions that shape the Mediterranean way of life, demonstrating how meaningful experiences can become a bridge between agriculture, gastronomy, and high-end tourism.
The congress brought together women from across the Mediterranean to exchange ideas, experiences, and best practices around olive oil, oleotourism, and the role of rural communities in preserving and promoting our shared heritage. The discussions highlighted the importance of olive oil not only as an exceptional product but also as a cultural, social, and economic pillar for our regions.
Beyond the inspiring presentations, it was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with fellow "Women in Olive Oil" members, meet new colleagues, and strengthen collaborations built on a shared passion for quality, sustainability, and innovation.
My sincere thanks to the organizers for this enriching experience and to our Sicilian hosts for their warm hospitality, inspiring conversations, and unforgettable culinary experiences! Grazie di cuore!
