On Thursday, June 4th, I was honoured to speak at the Green Agenda Summit in Cyprus, where I shared my perspective on innovation in olive tourism and the opportunities it creates for destinations, producers, and local communities.
When I launched Mykonos Olive Oil Tasting, the idea of offering premium olive oil tasting experiences on an island without olive oil production was considered unconventional. Today, it is encouraging to see similar concepts emerging in other destinations, demonstrating that olive tourism can flourish well beyond traditional olive-growing regions.
I firmly believe that every destination can develop its own authentic olive tourism model, creating meaningful connections between agriculture, gastronomy, culture, and tourism while generating added value for local economies and new opportunities for younger generations.
At the same time, true olive tourism goes far beyond simply tasting olive oil. It is built on scientific knowledge, sensory expertise, hospitality, and storytelling. Creating memorable experiences requires the ability to educate, engage, and inspire guests while communicating the remarkable diversity, quality, and cultural significance of extra virgin olive oil.
By combining knowledge with authentic hospitality, we can elevate olive oil from a product to an unforgettable experience - one that enriches visitors, supports producers, and strengthens the future of sustainable tourism.
